Weave Films has applauded this year's Darwin International Film Festival programme and is urging punters to back the event and see the best of local and international film.

The 10-day festival programme was launched on the weekend and the event is set to kick off on Saturday September 15.

Weave's Emma Masters says it's an exciting program that offers something for everyone.

"Festival director Tim Parish's vision for the festival has been ambitious and bold," Emma says.

"The festival pretty much covers all facets when it comes to film and television and new storytelling - including virtual reality.

"The collective driving passion of the DIFF team has resulted in a diverse and all-encompassing program that deserves to be whioleheartedly embraced by content creators and the general public.

"I love the films which will screen during the festival - they are diverse and many have already sold out film festivals around the country."

In addition to the Deckchair screenings are the inaugural Capricornia Film Awards. But DIFF 2016 also offers an array of special events including the DIFF Film School for budding filmmakers, an industry summit for content creators, a focus on film research, virtual reality, animation and an exhibition by Darwin comic illustrator Jonathon Saunders.

"I congratulate all those involved in pulling this year's event together - it marks a watershed moment for the local industry where the broader public will get the chance to see a real taste of the amazing body of work produced in the last few years."

Weave Film' Emma Masters is a DIFF guest and will be attending the industry summit as a participant, presenter and moderator.

Emma Masters will host a discussion panel on the future prospects of the NT screen industry with key industry stakeholders and participants in the 2015 Ministerial Advisory Committee - Rachel Clements, Meredith Garlick, Andrew Hyde.
