Healthy Stores 2020

Healthy Stores 2020 is an international study that examined how the adverse effects of high-sugar food and drinks on Aboriginal health can be improved by working with retailers to restrict merchandising of these products.

The research focused on the merchandising of high sugar discretionary products and found that restricting supermarket promotions of high-sugar food and drinks reduces sales without reducing store profits.

Lead researchers Monaash University, the Menzies School of Health Research and partners Arnhem Land Progress Association commissioned Weave Films to produce a series of short films about the research.

We travelled to Milingimbi Island and filmed in their community store before travelling to Pirlangimpi on the Tiwi's Melville Island.

The research has been recently published in The Lancet.
